Can we just talk about this living room??? I mean, It feels so good to see it all come together. If you have been following my Instagram for sometime, you would have seen that every wall, celling and baseboard were painted dark brown…seriously!! DARK BROWN…it was like living in a dungeon. I quickly realized it needed white paint in its life. Shiplap, and my unique touch on it. I knew I wanted this space to be simple but yet feel cozy.
The first thing we did was paint the entire inside of the house white. Then we shiplap the living room. We did have shiplap in our previous house, so I knew I wanted to carry it into the new one. Once the shiplap was done, we started painting AGAIN! We went with “Bistro White” in satin by Valspar. After painting we moved onto the curtains. I didn’t want just your normal looking curtains, I wanted something different. So we decided to make our own out of drop cloths! Yup, you heard that right! DROP CLOTHS!!! I actually got the idea from LizMarie!! She does have a tutorial on her blog if you want to check that out here http://www.lizmarieblog.com/2016/11/diy-drop-cloth-curtains-in-the-sunroom/.
Once the curtains were hung, it was time to put everything together. We did end up keeping our sectional because it wasn’t in our budget to buy new ones. Which, I was totally fine with because they are a beautiful olive green color and super comfy. And I’m all for comfort! For our rug, I went with the WorldMarket “Linen Bordered Chunky Weave Jute Rug” in the 9×12. (Which is out of stock at the moment) with just adding the rug it made the space so much brighter and cozier. For our furniture, I found the perfect buffet and coffee table at a thrift store near me. They were both raw wood that I just chalk painted white and distressed, to add more character. For the chairs, I went with the TULLSTA Armchair – natural/Blekinge white from IKEA.
As for the walls, thats still a work in progress! I’m still trying to figure out what I want but for now I just hung these vintage head and foot boards with a magnolia wreath. Super simple and adds so much charm.
